Wizz Air arrives in Luxembourg: a new airline with three exciting routes

Luxembourg, 14June 2023: Wizz Air, has officially inaugurated the first ever flight from Luxembourg – to Bucharest, Romania. Two more routes to Rome, Italy and Skopje, North Macedonia are scheduled to start in July and December respectively. All new Wizz Air routes will be operated year-round, offering affordable travel options on board its efficient Airbus A320 family aircraft. Tickets are already available on wizzair.com and through the mobile app .

Nicknamed “Little Paris” for the abundance of monuments, wide tree-lined boulevards, and glorious Belle Époque buildings, the Romanian capital is today a bustling metropolis in the heart of Central Europe. Strolling around the historical centre by day and exploring bar culture by night with a sneak peak of vast scenic parks within an hour drive from the city looks like a perfect getaway. Wizz Air flights from Luxembourg to Bucharest are scheduled on Wednesdays and Sundays during the summer season, and on Mondays and Fridays in winter with a few extra flights for Christmas.

With three new direct and affordable flights to stunning European capitals, Wizz Air currently offers almost 60 000 seats on sale from Luxembourg, be it for business, holidays or to visit friends and family.

Wizz Air operates with the lowest carbon emissions per passenger/km against all competitor airlines in Europe, which amounted to 53.8 grams in the financial year 2023. To achieve this, the airline has invested heavily in its fleet by adding new and replacing older aircraft with the latest technology Airbus A321neo aircraft. The share of the new ‘neo’ technology has already surpassed 50% in Wizz Air’s aircraft fleet. Currently, the airline operates the youngest fleet in Europe with an average age of 4.5 years, well below the average age of its major competitors, which is around 10 years. On top of the fleet renewal, Wizz Air focuses on securing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) agreements with suppliers for the future and equity investments in the development of SAF technologies.

Tamara Nikiforova, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “Wizz Air is delighted to have inaugurated operations from a new airport and a new country to Bucharest, with two more routes – to Rome and Skopje – coming later this year. Underpinning our commitment to liberating lives through affordable travel, we are beyond excited to be bringing more low-fare opportunities to the market. Our crew can’t wait to welcome passengers from Luxembourg on board our aircraft”.
