Travel information

Is the airport closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak?

Update 20.05.2020:

Primarily travel restrictions and quarantine measures, reduced passenger flights to a minimum. After almost two months of suspension, the first regular passenger flights from and to Luxembourg are scheduled for the 29th of May, starting with Luxair to Stockholm, Lisbon, Porto, Hamburg and Munich.
Please note well that by the decision of the authorities, there is an obligation of wearing a mask or appropriate coverings for nose and mouth, when entering a public place such as the airport. Furthermore, we kindly ask you to follow the instructions published on the entry of the terminal.

What is meant by appropriate face covering?

If you have no mask available, then covering your nose and mouth by a handmade mask, a scarf or bandana could be an alternative. Can I still access the airport terminal to take my flight?

Update 20.05.2020:

Yes, as a passenger with a valid flight ticket, you can still enter the airport terminal to take your flight. Please follow the instructions published on the entry of the terminal. Please respect the wearing of a mask or using an appropriate covering for the nose and mouth during your stay at Luxembourg airport. 

Can I still access the airport terminal to pick up someone?

Update 20.05.2020:

Yes, if you need to pick up someone at the airport, you can still access the terminal. To enter, please follow the instructions published on the entry of the terminal. Also, we would like to refer to the statement of the ministry, not to go out without any necessity. Please note that you will only get access to the terminal if you respect the rule of wearing a mask or an appropriate face covering for mouth and nose.

Are there any restrictions for passengers entering from a “risk zone”?

Please consult www.gouvernement.lu for current updates. The information is updated regularly and available in the languages English, French, German, Luxembourgish and Portuguese.

Are there any flight restrictions due to the Coronavirus?

There are currently no flight restrictions from Luxembourg. However, the airlines adapt as well as their flight program from Luxembourg. Therefore, we recommend to always check your flight status and as well as the entry restriction of your destination before starting your journey. The situation might change very quickly; please consult the concerned airlines directly.

Should I wear a facemask when traveling?

Update 20.05.2020:

If you are traveling through Luxembourg Airport, you are obliged to wear a mask or an appropriate face covering for mouth and nose. You should not take off the mask during security control. 

This regulation may vary from airline to airline. Please check with your carrier directly for further information.

I am abroad and want to fly back to Luxembourg. How to proceed?

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs recommends Luxembourg nationals and residents who are currently abroad, especially outside of the Schengen space, and depending on their particular situation, to check with their travel agency and/or airline for return flights to Luxembourg. If needed, contact the Luxembourg embassy accredited to the country in question https://maee.gouvernement.lu/fr/missions-diplomatiques/missions-diplomatiques-et-consulaires-luxembourgeoises.html, or the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs https://maee.gouvernement.lu/fr/directions-du-ministere/affaires-consulaires.html.

Should I come to the airport earlier before my flight?

Yes, we invite you to come to the airport in time and advanced to your scheduled flight, because of the new hygiene and social distancing measures set up to guarantee your health protection as the best possible while traveling through Luxembourg Airport.

Is there food delivered in the airplane?

Due to the current situation and potential constraints, this service’s availability may vary from airline to airline. Please check with your airline directly for further information regarding food service during your flight.

Are the restaurants and shops at the airport open?

Update 30.05.2020:

Selected snacks are open at the airport. Please visit our dedicated page here to be informed.

There are vending machines at the entire airport facility before and after the security with cold and warm drinks, and snacks. The vending machines are filled up regularly.

You can take off your mask while eating or drinking if you are going to consume food or drink at the airport. We ask you to keep the appropriate social distancing when you take off your mask for this purpose, and to show responsibility and respect towards other passengers. Please put on your mask as soon as you finish your snack.

Is the Business Lounge still open?

Unfortunately, due to the current situation, the business lounge is not open. We apologize for the inconvenience and count on your comprehension. Thank you.

Is the Regus Meeting Center open?

Unfortunately, due to the current situation, the Regus Meeting Center is not open.

Is the temporary ING kids' corner still accessible?

Due to the current situation and to protect the health of children and adults, the ING temporary kids’ corner is still accessible, but we removed all games and furnitures.

Are the car rentals available?

Due to the current situation, car rental counters at the airport are closed. Please check with the car rental company directly to rent vehicles.

Bus and public transport

Is the Flibco bus available?

Update 04.06.2020

The Flibco Bus is due to the current situation not providing any connection from Luxembourg Airport. The suspension is temporarily set until Tuesday, 30.06.2020 included. We are sorry for the inconveniences caused and invite you to check the website of Flibco at www.flibco.com for the latest news regarding this subject.

Is public transport available?

Due to the current situation public transport service is reduced. You can find more information at: https://www.mobiliteit.lu/en/ .

Parking at lux-Airport:

My flight has been postponed/delayed due to the Coronavirus, do I need to pay the full parking costs?

If your flight is delayed or postponed due to the coronavirus, you will only have to pay the parking fees for your original travel period. You can request a refund of the difference by sending an email to info@lux-airport.lu.

Please attach the following documents to the email:

– Original booking confirmation
– Copy of the boarding pass from the return flight
– Receipt of the parking fee

We ask for your understanding that no immediate reduction of the parking fee can be made at the parking service to avoid any contact and the associated risks.

Does the free shuttle of Parking M still operated?

UPDATE 20.05.2020

Since parking M is closed, the free shuttle does not operate between the terminal and parking M anymore.

 

Are the car parks still open?

All car parks at the terminal are open. Only the parking economy M will be closed until further notice.

Can we use all level of the underground parking?

All our car parks except the parking economy M (closed) can be used as previously. Please follow the signs at the airport and pay attention to practice proper respiratory and hand hygiene and follow the instructions of the Ministry of health at www.gouvernement.lu. Respect and protect others by coughing and sneezing in the elbow etc. Wear a mask or face-covering in the terminal and anywhere that you cannot respect the minimum distance.

Hygiene and social distancing

Are there disinfectants and masks provided to the passengers?

We do not provide free masks at the airport to passengers. Please note that you can only enter the terminal with a face-covering such a mask, bandana or scarf. You need to wear face-covering during your stay in the entire airport as well as at the boarding area. For your safety, we have installed hand sanitizers at relevant contact points where handwash is not possible, e.g., at the security check. The automated disinfection dispensers will allow you and our staff to practice good hand hygiene throughout your entire lux-Airport journey. Besides, please pay attention to proper respiratory and hand hygiene and follow the instructions at the airport. Is the distance between the passengers guarantied?

Please follow the signs at the airport. These will safely guide you through the airport. Please note the direction and distance signs, as well as the instructions displayed at the entire airport. Pay attention to practice proper respiratory and hand hygiene. You can help protect yourself and others by respecting an appropriate distance and coughing and sneezing into the elbow. Wear a mask or face-covering in the terminal and anywhere else where you cannot grant the minimum social distance. What are the hygienic measures at the airport and while checking-in?

It is mandatory wearing a mask for passengers, either a surgical mask or a hand-made mask made of cloth, bandana (buff), or scarf.
All check-in counters are now fitted with a protective glass to guarantee maximum security for check-in agents and passengers.

You can take off your mask while eating or drinking if you are going to consume food or drink at the airport. We ask you to keep the appropriate social distancing when you take off your mask for this purpose, and to show responsibility and respect towards other passengers. Please put on your mask as soon as you finish your snack.

Are there restrictions in the airplane?

As the restrictions may differentiate between the airlines, we would like to invite you to contact your airline directly. You can find the airlines’ contacts here.

Are all the entrances open?

You can only access via the right main entrance at the side of Starbucks. The other door will be used as exit. Please follow the direction signs at the airport and keep your distance to other passengers.

What can I do to help to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus?

Please pay attention to practice proper respiratory and hand hygiene and follow the instructions of the Ministry of health at www.gouvernement.lu . Respect and protect others by coughing and sneezing in the elbow etc. Wear a mask or face-covering in public areas and anywhere that you cannot respect the minimum distance of 2 meters. 

Are there new measures at the arrival area?

There are no new measures at the arrival area except for the distance measures. We want to invite you to follow the direction and distance signs at the airport. Please pay attention to practice proper respiratory and hand hygiene and follow the instructions of the Ministry of health at www.gouvernement.lu. Respect and protect others by coughing and sneezing in the elbow etc. Wear a mask or face-covering in the terminal and anywhere that you cannot respect the minimum distance.

Are there new measures at the security area?

There are no new measures in the security area except for the appropriate distances to keep and the obligation to wear your mask on during the security check. We want to invite you to follow the directions and distance signs at the entire the airport. Please pay attention to practice proper respiratory and hand hygiene and follow the instructions of the Ministry of health at www.gouvernement.lu. Respect and protect others by coughing and sneezing in the elbow etc. Wear a mask or face-covering in the terminal and anywhere that you cannot respect the minimum distance.

Will there be fever measurements?

At the moment there were no instructions of fever measurement given by the ministry, so please pay attention to practice proper respiratory and hand hygiene and follow the instructions of the Ministry of health at www.gouvernement.lu. Respect and protect others by coughing and sneezing in the elbow etc. Wear a mask or face-covering in the terminal and anywhere that you cannot respect the minimum distance.

Luxair flights

Are there restrictions while checking-in?

We invite you to follow the direction and distance signs at the airport. Please pay attention to practice proper respiratory and hand hygiene and follow the instructions of the Ministry of health at www.gouvernement.lu. Respect and protect others by coughing and sneezing in the elbow etc. Wear a mask or face-covering in the terminal and anywhere that you cannot respect the minimum distance.

What are the hygienic measures taken while taking a Luxair flight?

Passengers must compulsorily wear a mask, either a surgical mask or a hand-made mask made of cloth, bandana (buff) or scarf (except for kids below 6 years old). Onboard, you will receive a personal hydro-alcoholic solution and a free sanitizing wipe. Sanitizing soap will also be available in washrooms.

What are the hygienic measures while boarding?

Bus transfers to the airplane will be avoided whenever possible.
Boarding and deplaned will be organized by a single door to reduce interactions among passengers.

Are there food and drinks provided on my Luxair flight?

For snacks and meals, packaging and presentation are adapted to minimize contact
Water bottles are available in self-service mode at cabin entrance, and we have to temporarily suspend our regular beverage service.
Please note that for Luxair flights with a flight time of less than 2 hours no food and catering services will be offered until further notice.

Will the seats on the airplane all be occupied?

Currently, the majority of the Luxair flights are not filled to capacity, which allows social distancing to take place. In cases where social distancing is not possible, our crews will do their best to optimize the seating whenever possible and to group the passengers traveling together, like your family, and separate them from other passengers.

Will my cabin baggage for my Luxair flight be accepted?

If you have a Luxair flight with a Bombardier Q400, please be aware that your cabin baggage size 55 X 40 X 23 cm and maximum 8 kg will not be accepted in the cabin and will automatically be tagged as “delivery at aircraft (DAA)” baggage. This means you will have to leave it in front of the aircraft before boarding and pick it up right after landing when leaving the aircraft. For a Luxair flight with a Boeing 737, please be aware that your cabin baggage will not be accepted in the cabin. Any other items, including your cabin luggage, have to be checked-in within your regular baggage and will be transported in the hold. You will then have to collect it on the baggage carousel after landing at the baggage claim area.
